A mobile AR rescue game built at MIT Reality Hack LA — blow out fires, save bunnies, and donate to support Los Angeles wildfire relief
AR Bunny Museum is a mobile AR rescue game created at MIT Reality Hack LA in response to the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. Players blow into their microphone to extinguish flames, tilt their phone to guide bunnies to safety, and collect rescued bunnies in an AR pen. The core mission: encourage $1 donations for wildfire relief through viral, shareable gameplay.
In January 2025, devastating wildfires swept through Los Angeles. The MIT Reality Hack LA track challenged teams to design technology-driven solutions in response. Our team created AR Bunny Museum — a mobile AR game that turns the act of donation into an engaging, shareable experience. The game uses play as a vehicle for empathy: by rescuing virtual bunnies from fire, players connect emotionally with the cause and are motivated to contribute real funds to wildfire relief.
Players guide a bunny through a fire-filled obstacle course using two novel interaction mechanics — blowing into the microphone to put out flames, and tilting the phone left and right to steer the bunny. The goal is to safely escort each bunny to the destination. The physical blow-to-extinguish mechanic creates a visceral, embodied connection to the act of firefighting.
Blow into the microphone to make fire dissipate — a physical, intuitive interaction that makes players feel like they're helping put out the flames.
Tilt the phone left and right to control the bunny's movement, navigating through hazards to reach safety.
Each rescued bunny — with its own unique skin — is saved into your personal pen, building a growing collection of bunnies you've saved.
Beyond the rescue game, AR Bunny Museum features a spatial AR mode where your collected bunnies escape their pen and roam your real-world environment. Using plane detection, bunnies appear on your desk, floor, and surrounding surfaces — turning any space into a living bunny sanctuary. This mode deepens the emotional reward of rescuing bunnies and creates shareable, social-media-ready moments.
The game's core purpose is fundraising for LA wildfire relief. By donating just $1, players unlock an exclusive LA-themed bunny skin — a tangible, collectible reward that incentivizes both donation and social sharing. The design leverages viral mechanics: players want to show off their rare LA bunny on social media, organically spreading awareness and driving more donations.
A low barrier to entry — donate just one dollar to unlock the exclusive LA skin and support wildfire relief efforts.

The collectible reward loop encourages players to share on social media, amplifying reach and driving more donations organically.
